If you want to celebrate the winter season and see some really awesome snow phenomenons you should go to Japan because they know how to appreciate snow and rime ice.
This gathering of scary yet beautiful “snow monsters” are happening up in the mountains of Yamagata. What you see in the pictures really look like a hill full of frozen snow creatures, but they are only huge trees that are hiding under lots and lots of snow. A long ride with a cable car takes you all the way up to the top of the mountains where people gather to see the Japanese snow phenomenon. Some are calling them “snow monsters”, others call them “juhyou” which means “frost-covered trees”. It is today a huge tourist attraction, and if you’re in the area you should definitely take a tour, especially if it’s night when the “snow monsters” even look more scary than during the daytime, because of the fog and the gloomy lightning that the snow reflects.
Other a bit unusual things that Japan has to offer are their Dekotora trucks that are decorated with some crazy lights.
